In the female health community, one unfortunate reality we often see is females living in fear of the thoughts & opinions of those around them, despite their goals and what they truly want to do.
We are SO passionate about this topic because we have all been there at one stage or another. We have seen others go through this same thing and want nothing more than to help at least one female push past this and feel good about themselves, regardless of any outside noise.
You might’ve been told what the “acceptable” amount of food to eat is, and what isn’t. Maybe it was what the “acceptable” body is, and what isn’t. Or even what part of your body you should lose fat in because it’s “unattractive”.
Just to name a few…
When we allow the voices of others to dictate how we view ourselves, we can end up on a slippery slope. It’s easy to feel like you’re living for everyone else, sacrificing your happiness and self-acceptance in the process. The pressure to conform to societal standards can seem colossal, especially when those around us reinforce these ideals.
The Danger of Internalising Criticism
It’s crucial to recognise how easily we can allow the thoughts and beliefs of others to control our own self-perception, especially when those voices come from our closest relationships. Deep down, we often know these opinions don’t define us. However, when you hear the same things repeatedly, from many different people, it can lead you to believe it yourself.
Let me tell you now – you’re not a bad person if this happens – you’re human.
We naturally seek approval, validation and advice from those around us. But the harm of this is, that it leads you further away from your own intuition – your own “knowing” we like to call it – and eventually ALL of your decisions are based on others thoughts and emotions, not your own.
When your decisions start to reflect the thoughts and emotions of others rather than your own, you risk losing sight of who you truly are and what you genuinely want. So, how do we break free from this cycle? Here are a few steps to reclaim your power:
This journey is not just about rejecting negative opinions; it’s about encompassing a life that reflects your values and goals. It’s about celebrating you, and realising that your body, your choices, and your path are yours alone. Be unapologetically you and watch your life transform into the life that you’ve always wanted.
