Why You Should Embrace All The Gains
Now we totally understand that putting on weight can be scary – but hear me out!
When it comes to weight training, most people start because they want to either “tone up” or gain strength – and in order to do either of these, there is a level of muscle mass that we need to gain in order to achieve these goals.
Factors Impacting Our Body Weight: Before we get into anything though, let’s keep in mind that our bodyweight can be dictated by many different things, such as: stress levels, sodium intake, menstrual cycle, water intake (stay hydrated queens), bowel movements, carb intake + MORE!
But despite all of that, increased muscle mass should be f*cking celebrated!! This isn’t to say you are BOUND to put on weight if you strength train, because strength training also plays a massive role in fat loss as well! Strength training balanced with a well balanced diet generally leads to a stable body weight, but yet a change in body recomposition (but that’s a topic for another day).
“BUT IT’S SCARY”
Trust me sis we get it, we’ve been there too! Living in a world where “health” is generally dictated by the number on the scale or the size of your appearance, it can be easy to get in your head about gaining a little weight – even if that weight is predominately muscle mass and going towards some massive gains in the gym! I also understand that as women, we want to feel sexy and beautiful in our own skin – but who’s to say you have to look a certain way in order to feel those things?
The reality of training is that if you want to gain muscle (whether that be on your booty or elsewhere), that also means gaining overall mass – but instead of being scared of this – let’s embrace it!! Plus, I’m sure we all love when someone compliments our booty gains (we know we do hehe)
Other forms of progress – so I want you to also take a moment to acknowledge other forms of progress that can come along the way, such as: increasing your overall activity across the day, increasing your water intake, managing your stress levels / mental health, focusing on eating quality foods, remaining constant with a training style you enjoy, training close to failure (true RPE), getting 8hrs+ of sleep on average + more!
Your body weight isn’t everything sis.
Your body weight does not define you.
Learn to embrace it, rather than hate it.
