The way you are setting the bar TOO high is killing you and your results.
Upon a fresh page (whether that be a new week, a new goal, a new gym, a clean slate, a newfound pop of motivation, etc.), we all want to iron out some new habits with our fresh energy.
“I am going to train 4 x per week.”
“I am going to eat home-cooked meals 6 days per week.”
“I am going to meditate for an hour a day.”
You get the drift…
Within time, those habits just do not seem to stick. That exciting fresh-page energy we had has now settled. Life got busy – events popped up – you got stressed… because that’s what life does. And then you beat yourself up for not sticking to those habits.
The issue here is that the habits were planned when you were feeling at your HONEYMOON phase.
The honeymoon phase always gets us to overcommit – leaving us high and dry when life plays out its natural course.
Set habits that you can complete, even in the lapse phases of motivation.
No matter what human experience you try to fight – you WILL have lapse phases. These weeks are the weeks you just tick off the bare minimum.
The hype, the honeymoon, & the surges we all love are weeks you will tick the habits and MORE – leaving you with a greater feeling of success and achievement… often making those surge & honeymoon days and weeks last longer.
There are 2 Versions of This Story:
Genuinely consider a low-motivation week. Where is your time spent? What does work look like? How do you feel?
NOW… what’s your goal?
What are you willing to do, in that low-motivation week, to keep moving forward toward your goals?
Those habits are your answer.
