Too often, we settle for the people in our lives—friends, family, coworkers—simply because we think we have to. But we couldn’t disagree more.
We know what it’s like to be in a group of so-called friends, at a workplace, or even in a family setting where you don’t feel respected or valued. Many others have felt this way too, and it’s unfortunate. When you’re surrounded by people who don’t appreciate you, it’s easy to start believing that you deserve that level of disrespect.
But we’re here to tell you: you do not have to settle for this. You are worthy of so much more, and we wish more people knew that!
When I talk about “community,” I’m not referring to the people who just live within a 10km radius of your home. I’m talking about the individuals you choose to spend your time with regularly—those who share your interests and values.
The key word here is “choose.” YOU have the power to decide who these people are, how often you spend time with them, and how much influence they have on your life. Surrounding yourself with supportive people can have a huge impact on your well-being and personal growth, in the best way possible.
Take some time to reflect on your current circle. Are they uplifting you and challenging you in positive ways? Or do they tend to tear you down and don’t seem supportive of you and your goals? If you’re leaning towards the second one, it might be time to reassess who you allow into your life.
Go out and find those people who inspire you, respect you, and make you feel valued. Whether it’s joining a club, attending meetups, or connecting online, there are plenty of ways to find your people.
Building Authentic Connections
Remember the golden rule: QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. I would much rather have 3 friends who are the best people in the world. Compared to 20 friends who fken suck. Now, building authentic connections does take time and effort, but trust me – it’s worth it. Surround yourself with people who push you to be your best self, who share your passions, and who genuinely want to see you succeed.
You don’t have to settle for relationships that bring you down. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and support what journey you are on. You deserve a community that celebrates you and helps you grow. So go out there and find those people – your happiness and self-worth depend on it!
