Have you ever stopped to ask yourself… why 1200 calories?
Why that special number? Why not 800? Why not 100? Why not 4567?
By now, we hope you have all realised that we are all very different human beings with lots of different needs. So who the hell decided that 1200 was the right fit for all of us?
Surely it’s not just us that get angry?
Somewhere along the way, 1200 calories became the gold standard for dieting. But the truth is, this number is often arbitrarily plucked from thin air, and it doesn’t take into account your height, weight, activity level, or metabolic needs. It’s just a number that gained fame on the internet and never left.
We rarely give ourselves time to question these so-called “rules.” We’re all moving so damn fast and chasing the next best thing that just because it’s pumped on TikTok and it’s at the forefront of our mind, we think it’s the next best step.
The fact is: your body and mind deserve more from you!
So let this be a reminder – whether it’s the 1200 calories or the 10,000 steps. Who gave us these numbers? Who then latched onto them and made them famous? Do they even know what they’re talking about?
What Should You Do Instead?
Focus on YOUR Data: Track your own intake, activity, and progress. Your body will give you feedback—listen to it.
Ask for Guidance: Seek advice from professionals who can calculate your specific needs. Caloric requirements are highly personal and depend on factors like muscle mass, daily activity, and health goals.
Ditch the Magic Numbers: Forget random goals like 1200 calories or 10,000 steps if they don’t work for you. Set goals tailored to your body and your life.
