Your Internal Self Talk
Can make or break your outcome.
Now when we mention this, it can refer to quite literally anything you do. As coaches, we so often see women stand in their own way of achieving the outcomes they desire, simply by BELIEVING they can’t, or aren’t worthy of them. The most important thing to note here is that we can CHANGE our BELIEFS. They are not facts set in stone, they are just something we have repeatedly told ourselves or reinforced through our actions.
Before engaging in anything, such as entering a lift in training or starting a run, we often have internal self-talk, which refers to the thoughts and beliefs we have about ourselves and our abilities. This self-talk can be either positive or negative and majorly influences your performance.
For example, if you enter a lift with doubts about your strength or say “I don’t think I can do this,” it will most likely affect your confidence and performance negatively. On the other hand, if you approach it with a positive mindset, believing in your capabilities and saying things like “I’ve got this!!”, then you’re more likely to perform better.
Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
The concept of self-fulfilling prophecy is relevant here. If you are consistently telling yourself that you can’t achieve something or that you’ll fail and so “what’s the point even trying,” then you’re more likely to perform poorly because you’ve quite literally already convinced yourself of that outcome and that you don’t DESERVE to succeed. On the other hand, if you have a positive mindset and believe in your potential for success, then you’re more likely to put in the effort & perform better, fulfilling your positive expectations.
Day-To-Day Life
This idea extends far beyond just training. The way we talk to ourselves internally, our self-perception, and our beliefs about our abilities can influence so many aspects of our lives. For example:

Work Performance: If you’re constantly doubting your abilities at work, you’ll probably find that you struggle to take on challenging tasks or pursue opportunities to grow & develop in your industry due to your internal beliefs holding you back.

Relationships: Negative self-talk can affect how you perceive yourself in relationships too, leading to issues such as low self-esteem or difficulty in forming meaningful connections, and potentially self-sabotaging yourself from accepting the love & appreciation you deserve.

Goal Achievement: Believing in yourself and maintaining a positive internal dialogue can be crucial for setting and achieving personal and professional goals. Conversely, constant self-doubt may hinder progress and limit potential.

Essentially, the way we talk to ourselves internally shapes our perceptions, behaviours, and ultimately, our outcomes – whether it’s in our training, work, relationships, or personal development.
Creating a positive and supportive internal dialogue can be a powerful tool for enhancing your performance & overall quality of life. It all starts with your MIND.
